Today, Maurice Washington endorsed Mike Seekings in the Charleston mayoral race. He said:

"Over these past few weeks, the public and I have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the perspectives and visions of the candidates in the upcoming runoff election. Mike's honest, pragmatic, and hopeful insight into our community’s problems and needs, and his willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to the public’s questions and concerns, sets him far apart.

Additionally, his commitment to making Charleston a city that works for all of its residence, and elevating Charleston’s partnership with CCSD and other educational entities to ensure that all children in Charleston have access to the many opportunities our city presents, is spot on! So I am expressing my support for Mike's campaign and my intention both to vote for him in the upcoming run off election and to spread word to others of the value of his policies and abilities. I am hoping for his success."

Washington, a former Charleston City Councilmember, finished third in the general election with more than 2,100 votes.

"Maurice's support is meaningful and appreciated," Seekings said. "More than half of Charleston voters chose change in the first round and Maurice played a large role in that with a message focused on education, economic development and equity."
